Change of Itinerary for Monday

With immediate effect, the Stantonbury Group are removing the Library drop point from the Monday evening Soup Run.

For some weeks now we have been concerned with the behaviour and attitude of the group of lads, and following an incident last night when members of the Stantonbury Group were verbally abused, we have decided that enough is enough and will no longer stop at this point.

In particular, the instigators of the abuse will not be served by the Monday group at any venue under any circumstances.

We have decided in place of the Library stop, we will drop off any surplus sandwiches to the YMCA building in Central Milton Keynes, for distribution to the residents and in a small way at least we can be sure that those in real need are getting the help they deserve.

I’m sorry if this in any way impacts on the other Soup Run Evenings, but I must consider above all else the safety of the volunteers and this cannot in my opinion be guaranteed at this stop.

Got any Crayfish ?

One like this perhaps?

One like this perhaps?

Well it was only a matter of time I suppose before our clients taste buds become aclimatised to the new bill of fayre.

Bizarrely, tonight we had two requests:

Haven’t you got any proper sandwiches like we used to get ?

and

Haven’t you got any crayfish ?

Given that the second request was at the last drop of of the evening, perhaps we shouldn’t have been too amazed…

Still, we were cleaned out within a couple of minutes even though the contents of the sandwiches were clearly unrecognisable to some even with the aid of a torch….

Hopefully the sushi bar will be up and running soon…

Keep smiling !!

Ready to eat ?

What a surprise that was then. Thanks to the hard work (and contacts..) of the Woughton Group, Pret a Manager in CMK have very kindly offered to donate their leftover sandwiches to the Soup Runners.

Mike Baldwin from the Woughton Group collected them for us, and to our surprise, there were dozens of them in all shapes and sizes.

Do you know what a crinkly old bag is ? We do…

No more slogging away with the loaves, spread and fillings for us Lads!

Our customers were a bit less certain about some of the fillings, and particularly circumspect about the insertion of spinach and salad items into their usual bland fillings.

Hopefully as they get used to the choice and change of fayre,we might convince them that ‘Fresh Food’ doesn’t always come from McDonalds and that chips are not one of the five fruit groups.

Just for now though, we won’t be providing a sandwich board (pun intended) with the wrap of the day offer.
