How to become a volunteer

Interested in helping on the Milton Keynes Soup Run? Well here are a few pointers as to what we require of our volunteers.

Each of the five evenings a week we operate is run by a separate team – most are organised on a rota basis so you are not required to commit to volunteering every week. It is helpful for you to commit to a particular evening – this helps with the organisation.

PLEASE NOTE THAT AT PRESENT WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANY MORE VOLUNTEERS. Please check back here in future.

On an evening when you are ‘on duty’ you would need to be available from 6.30pm to 9.30pm to help prepare soup, hot water and sandwiches at one of our set up venues and then go with the other people on your team to the three meeting points to distribute the food – sandwiches and fruit etc – and drink which includes soup, tea and coffee.

Once you and your team have visited all the distribution points you will be asked to return to the preparation venue to help with clearing up, cleaning flasks and putting away items.

When we have a need for new volunteers they are required to have their own transport as, due to time constraints, we are unable to offer lifts to and home from the preparation venue. You may not need to use your vehicle to go out on Soup Run as you may be able to team up with someone else who has a vehicle.
